It is with great excitement that the Matrix AI Network team releases the first major update to the Matrix AI Network! The primary goal of this update is to increase the stability of the network. This update includes tweaks to several attributes including:
|Verification Masternode Selection||
Any Verification Masternode with a stake exceeding 1/19th of the total MAN tokens staked by all Verification Masternodes is guaranteed selection. All other Verification Masternodes are selected according to their stake. The probability of selection can be estimated using a simple formula:
The real formula is considerably more complex but yields similar results. The reason we use a more complex algorithm to manage selection is to reduce selection variability in small time periods.
As before, once selected, all Verification Masternodes in a given cycle (300 blocks) serve as the Block Leader, in turn, regardless of stake. The probability of everyone’s starting positions can also be estimated using a simple formula:
|VIP System||The previous VIP system is completely eliminated and does not impact the selection of Masternodes in any way.|
|Voting Timeout||As before, in order to verify and package transactions in a block, at least 13 of the selected Verification Masternodes must agree via a voting mechanism. If a Verification Masternode fails to vote, they timeout and are replaced. The time to timeout is changed from 20 seconds to 40 seconds.|
|Block Timeout||If a block leader fails to perform their duties, they will timeout and be replaced. The time to timeout is changed from 40 seconds to 60 seconds.|
|Penalties||Penalties assigned to malicious, mis-deployed and offline Verification Masternodes are increased. Any Verification Masternode that fails to perform its duties for the entirety of a selection cycle will forfeit its next 10 selections.|
|Target Block Time||The target block time is increased from 6 seconds to 9 seconds.|
|Block Rewards||Block rewards are increased from 10 MAN tokens to 16 MAN tokens.
Additionally, the way the block rewards are distributed have been slightly tweaked.
|Bugfixes||Miscellaneous bug fixes.|
Block rewards will now be divided according to the chart below.
|Network||Total Share||Recipient||Individual Share|
|Verification Network||50%||Block Verifier Selected Verifiers Matrix Foundation||25% 65% 10%|
|Mining Network||30%||Block Miner Selected Miners Matrix Foundation||40% 50% 10%|
|Stake Network||20%||Staked Accounts||100%|
Originally, the Block Verifier received 40% of the Verification Network share. In the new version, the Block Verifier receives 25%. The difference is shared amongst all the other Selected Verifiers. This means that all Selected Verifiers now share 65% instead of 50% of the Verification Network rewards. There are no other changes.
As of this writing, the new gman files for Mac and Windows are available for download on the official Matrix AI Network website. The Linux version is available on the official Matrix AI Network github.
Everyone must download the updated gman files as soon as possible to ensure the continued smooth operation of their Mining and Verification Masternodes.
Performing the upgrade requires just a few simple steps:
1. Shut down your node.
2. On Windows, rename your original gman.exe file to gman old.exe. On Mac, rename your original gman UNIX executable to gman old
4. Move the new gman.exe file into your original gman folder. For mac users, do the same with your new gman UNIX executable
5. Delete gman old.exe or gman UNIX executable
6. Redeploy your node (Windows). MAC instructions are similar and can be found in the Matrix AI Network Node Deployment Guide
a. Open Notepad or another word processing software. Copy and paste the following string into a separate document and replace the highlighted section with your own Wallet B address. After doing so, ensure that the entirety is a single string of text. Copy it and paste it into the Command Prompt.
Please make sure to insert a space between manAddress and your Wallet B address.
gman --datadir chaindata --networkid 1 --debug --verbosity 5 --manAddress MAN.2sXxXxxXxXxxXxXxxxXxXxXxxxXjU --entrust entrust.json --gcmode archive --outputinfo 1 --syncmode full
b. Press Enter. You will be prompted to enter the password you just set up. As before, you will not be able to see your password as your write it. Do so. Press Enter. If you mistyped your password, you will receive an error message. Don’t worry. Simply follow the prompts until the “>” symbol appears.
c. After entering your password, you should receive a congratulatory message after a few seconds. Congratulations! Your node is set up!
Please note that the above steps assume you have already been running a Matrix AI Network Masternode using the previous gman files. If you are setting up a completely new node, please download and refer to the Matrix AI Network Node Deployment Guide.
After upgrading gman files, there is no need to restake. All you need to do is replace your existing gman.exe file with the new one, as demonstrated above, and redeploy. Please ensure that all files path remain the same to avoid issues.
Everyone must download the updated gman files as soon as possible to ensure the continued operation of their Mining and Verification Masternodes. The new gman files are available for download from the official Matrix AI Network website and github as of this writing. The deadline to upgrade gman files and redeploy your Masternode is Block 330,000. We estimate the network will reach Block 330,000 around May 20th at noon (Beijing Time)/May 20th at 4am (UTC +0).
Beginning with Block 330,000, the Matrix AI Network will no longer interact with the old gman files. It is strongly recommended that you download and redeploy using the new gman files immediately. The new gman files are backwards compatible soupgrading early will not impact your nodes ability to perform mining and verification tasks prior to May 20th.
Simply put, if you don’t upgrade gman files, your node will not be able to perform mining and verification tasks beginning May 20th at 8pm (Beijing Time)/May 20th at noon (UTC +0). This also means that you will not be able to receive full block rewards.
Not at all! The Matrix AI Network will continue to monitor and improve. The next major update is scheduled for the middle of June 2019.
